With emergency care, you may be the only emergency or one of 3 or 4 or more in that moment, so you do need to be prepared to commit hours of your time because you dont know what the capacity and need is gonna look like. They also work with you on cost, take time to explain options, and help you apply for things like carecredit if needed.The care they provide you when you have to let go of an animal is absolutely touching. To the staff there--the docs, the assistants, the counter staff--thank you for being such a support to myself and everyone that comes in struggling to make really tough decisions. Your work is so appreciated and it takes an incredible amount of love and compassion to do this work. I was referred to Willamette Veterinary Hospital by our Veterinarian. I called and the receptionist welcomed us to come right away. By the time I got there from Albany they had received his records and were ready for him. He received kind and compassionate care and he was observed and his medication was adjusted and monitored. I received calls from the Dr. in the evening and morning and called later after we came home and talked to the nurse as he was anxious. The administration and medical teams treated both our doggo and us so kindly. I was an emotional wreck and they patiently answered all my questions and gave great recommendations. They treated him with inordinate kindness & I know they really tried to keep us together.They made that last journey together as compassionate as possible. Instead of the typical exam room, they had a separate suite with a couch and a contained patio for my other dog to come in/out to say goodbye to his brother. I was able to sit on the couch and hold my boy in comfort and love while he passed over instead of holding him on a hard metal table. The vet stayed with me the entire time because I was alone. IV fluids, blood/urine tests, xray, treatment for sudden gastroenteritis, however vet was quick to recommend euthanizing the dog for her health issues and age, doggy wasn't drinking/eating/moving in the holding kennel and recommending we say our last goodbyes the next day causing great distress for us. We arrived to wait an hour to our dog prancing into the room and ready to go home, we brought her back home with meds, she is now more active, perky, playful, than she has been, eating/drinking/ eliminating well despite her health issues - no reason to put her to death so early!B ★★★★☆ Helpful to have an emergency vet.
