Dr. Cathy Carter

Dr. Cathy Carter began her veterinary career by volunteering with a large animal veterinarian when she was 16 yrs. old.  Growing up with one brother and her cats and dogs in NW Indiana, she spent most of her free time  showing quarter horses and participating in 4-H.

She earned her BS Animal Science from Purdue University and graduated from Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1991.

During her senior year of veterinary school she spent 10 weeks at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda.  There she worked with the national cattle tick control and dairy herd health programs.  While in East Africa she traveled recreationally in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania visiting the Kenyan coast and Amboseli National Park.

Dr. Carter moved to Oregon in 1993 where she did a residency at Oregon State University and became board certified in Large Animal Internal Medicine.  A desire to help animals achieve balance, harmony, and an improved quality of life inspired her to pursue acupuncture training.    In 2009 she earned certification in veterinary acupuncture from the Chi Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

In addition to memberships in the AVMA and OVMA, Dr. Carter is a member of The American Association of Feline Practitioners.

Dr. Carter enjoys traveling and in addition to East Africa has been to Honduras, Belize, Guatemala, and the Cook Islands.

In recent years she returned to her childhood passion and obsession of horses and is learning dressage.  If not at work she can be found at the barn with the horses.

She currently lives with 2 cats Lily and Rosie and has 2 off-track Thoroughbreds Webster and Roy.   The number of pets and horses is constantly subject to change.
